All Good Things...
I met Andrew MacDowell under the best and worst of circumstances.
Our instant bromance — when this ginger-haired Eagle Scout NYU Professor showed up with his class at Stupid Cancer HQ for a marketing exercise — turned personal upon his disclosure that his 5-year-old son Henry was about to go in for a bone marrow transplant for a rare pre-leukemic condition. SPOILER: Henry's baby sister Maggie was a perfect match, and Henry is alive and thriving today.
"Beast Mode MZ" is not a version of myself I like to transform into because it means someone I care about is going through the hellscape of isolation, fear, and healthcare fuckery. There is no better use of this superpower than when it changes a life for the better.
With our bond forged, we wooed until my mic-drop nonprofit exit and a new venture into digital health media startup mode. No one was more equipped for the job of Co-Founder (and psychological wrangler to my spectrum-ish, oddball brain damage) than he. So off we went into the wild blue (green?) yonder.
Four years, 3.1M downloads, 27 shows/series, millions of patients reached, and $3.9M in revenue later (with many other humble brags to boot,) we have done just that.
What with my aforementioned posts about personal transformation, radical intentionalism, and purpose-driven manifestation, it is time once again for a highly overdue changing of the guard.
I will be stepping down as CEO of OffScrip Health this month and proudly pass the torch to Andrew in recognition of his extraordinary passion, leadership, stewardship, and vision.
So, let's give him the warmest of welcomes!
As for me, I will be retaining an enduring and highly interconnected role within OffScrip Health as Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the Board of Directors. Out of Patients is safe, sound, profitable, and will continue to scale like a weed with the measured impact every patient, caregiver, provider, and advocate deserves.
So here I go once again, venturing off with Matthew Zachary Worldwide into another wild yonder. Podcasting. Concerts. Books. Film. TV?
And you're all coming with me because this is what we do. Mayor Lou would say I've got "Good Lint" in my roller and decades of experience to offer my network of partners and clients old and new alike.
Someone recently called me "The Advocate's Advocate." I like it, and I hope you do too. We are one community, and together our voices are louder. Stay tuned for next week's MATTIFESTO 2023.
