What if Cancerland finally decided to ask patients what they actually care about *before* making all the decisions for them.

Wild concept, right?

CancerCare just launched the Patient Values Initiative—a serious step toward making sure patients aren't just along for the ride when it comes to treatment decisions.

Instead of building more tech no one asked for or pumping out another glossy campaign, they're doing something that feels long overdue: actually centering what matters to the people going through it, garnering actual input from actual humans who've been through the meat grinder. What I am smelling are actual survey results that are more potent than anecdotal stories. Imagine that.

No more "patient voice as window dressing." Let's embed lived experience into how care gets delivered, paid for, and measured. Because if we keep treating people like problems to solve instead of partners in their care, we lose on trust, outcomes, and any moral ground we claim to stand on.

So yeah, I'm watching this closely. Because if this works, it sets a new bar. One where the patient isn't just a data point. They're the damn blueprint. Props to the team at CancerCare for choosing the harder path. It's easier to stay safe. It's harder to disrupt the system from within. But this is a real start.
