Hey, look Ma! I'm a Lab Leader
With gratitude to my colleagues at Roche and their Lab Leaders community, it was an absolute pleasure to be christened a "Contributing Lab Leader" (*Adds to LinkedIn Profile) and contribute to this article, "Bringing patient-centricity into the Lab to improve patient health."
I'm not usually a fan of jargon terms and wasted syllables, but, in this case, there was purpose and authentic intent.
Like other easily pokeable systems, I'm on the side of "Don't hate the player, hate the game." For those hard-working individuals toiling away in the underbelly, it's easy to lose sight of the intention of patient-centricity, which – as it should – means different things to different people.
However, if there were one unifying theme behind the dogmatic origins, it was to keep in mind that, no matter what your JD, task, remit, or assignments are, never forget that, ultimately, down the chain, there is a living, breathing human being at the end of the script, the pill, the data, and the conversation.
And that human being depends on all of us to keep our eyes on the prize, that is, to guarantee they are treated with empathy, compassion, and trusted guidance to make the best decisions about their care for themselves and no one else.
Enjoy the piece.
