I Got Signed by Buchwald

My heart made a wish 29 years ago to survive brain cancer.

Since then, I've lived an abnormally blessed, synchronistic, and "Forrest Gump-ish" life sprinkled with personal and professional experiences and opportunities I can only describe as unordinary.

Channeling "Inside Out," I can think of EIGHT core memories representing my most surreal "after cancer" moments:

1) Holding in my hands the two solo piano albums I recorded and produced in the late 1990s after they said I'd never play again
2) Performing for 30,000 people on the National Mall (2002)
3) My wedding (2005)
4) Receiving 501(c)3 status for Stupid Cancer (2006)
5) The birth of my twins (2010)
6) Launching Instapeer, the first peer-matching mobile app for cancer patients (2013)
7) Ringing the NASDAQ and NYSE opening bells (2015)
8) Appearing on the cover of Newsweek (2017)
9) Producing "The Cancer Mavericks: A History of Survivorship" documentary series on Spotify (2022)

And now 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁

What's my secret? I have no idea.  Do I look like someone with a plan?

If it's at all possible to put it into a word salad, I suppose it would be an alliterative bouillabaisse of:

Flirting with death (*optional)
Finding your purpose
Feeling the fear
Forgiving your trauma
Faking it 'til you make it
Failing first, second, and third
Fighting like hell
Falling with style
Firing your boss
Facing the haters
Fomenting disruption
Forging the path
Founding a movement
Fostering authenticity
Forcing the future
Focusing on gratitude

...while at the same time (1) cleaning up nice, (2) making it look good, and (3) never looking under the hood.

Today is a huge win for patients and the patient advocacy universe.

To infinity and beyond!
