💰 THE $2,200 HEART SURGEON 💰

Mark Cuban did the math on live TV.

Heart transplant bills insurance $25,000. Surgeon gets $2,200.

Cuban’s response: “If I’m getting a heart transplant, I want that motherfucker making $10k.” (SIC)

Patients hear that number and think Cuban made a mistake. Well, big heaping spoiler alert because he didn’t.

The surgeon who holds your beating heart makes less than the hospital parking garage collected that week. The anesthesiologist bills more. The device rep watching from the corner bills more. The CEO who never touched a scalpel makes that $2,200 every four hours.

I spent over two decades in cancer advocacy, community building, media, comms and strategic consulting. I’ve seen oncologists who saved hundreds of lives drive ten year old cars while insurance executives buy boats named after the drugs they deny.

You want to fix healthcare? Start by paying the people who DO healthcare. Not the people who MANAGE healthcare. Not the people who DENY healthcare. The people who show up at 3 AM when your kid can’t breathe.
