Shakedown.
My take on Dr. Richard Boxer, MD, FACS’s piece in The ASCO Post. (Link In Comments ⬇️)
A 37% cut to the National Cancer Institute is not a budget adjustment. It’s a betrayal of trust. Cancer kills 612,000 tax-paying Americans a year. That number matches nearly every combat death in U.S. history. The NCI has saved more lives than any war ever fought. And now the same country that built it wants to strip it for parts.
Americans have invested $184 billion since 1938.
That money bought 4.5 million lives, a 71% drop in childhood deaths, and almost every cancer drug that keeps people alive today. A 37% cut means 96% of new research never sees daylight. It means young scientists walk away, senior ones pack up, and Europe gets our talent.
It means fewer trials, fewer cures, and more funerals.
The NCI isn’t bureaucracy. Science is not a DOGE-able thing. It’s the last line between hope and despair for millions of families. It’s why some kids make it to graduation. It’s why Dr. Boxer, who has survived *three cancers*, still practices medicine. To gut it for politics is cruelty.
At this point, I don’t care who you voted for. I care that you didn’t vote for this
Because this is total bullshit. Nobody asked for it. Nobody wants it. And every American with a body that can get cancer should be furious.
