In case you have not had a listen, this 8-part audio series was a labor of love 50 years in the making. Forget the medicine. Forget the science. This is about the people rose up and who fought back. The people who forced the government and the medical world to bend to the will of the patient. The nameless people upon whose shoulders we all stand and should pay tribute to.

While our cause never ceases, it is critical to see our progress through the lens of history, for it is indeed a teacher. While we fight for equity, access, pricing, mental health, navigation, and more, 40 years ago, cancer was more or less a guaranteed death sentence.

Today, we have "better problems" because so many more of us not only live but thrive with, through, and — hopefully — beyond our diagnosis.

Will cancer advocacy always be a work in progress? Yes. Will the uphill battle rage on? But are we pushing the boulder up a better mountain this time? Yes.

As you experience The Cancer Mavericks, you'll gain a perspective on this very metaphor. The struggle is always real, but the goal is different, thanks to the invisible heroes we may have never heard of but who deserve homage to the boulders they pushed on our behalf oh so many decades ago.
