Trump's Meeting With Insurers Is Already Over Before It Starts
24 million Americans just watched their premiums double overnight.
From $888 to $1,904. Because Congress let the ACA subsidies expire and shrugged.
Now Trump says he is going to sit down with insurance executives and pressure them to lower prices.
This is the same industry that banked $543.4 billion in profits over the last decade. The same industry that denies claims by algorithm, runs ghost networks, and treats patients like line items. The same industry that just got handed millions of new customers who now have no choice but to pay whatever they are told.
And the solution on the table? Health Savings Accounts.
HSAs require high deductible plans. Sold by the same insurers. Administered by subsidiaries like OptumBank. Which is owned by UnitedHealth. The largest HSA custodian in the country.
So the plan to fight Big Insurance is to create a new revenue stream for Big Insurance while shifting even more costs onto patients who already cannot afford care.
HSAs do not cap premiums. They do not lower deductibles. They do not help the family choosing between rent and refills. They help Wall Street. They help shareholders. They help the same executives about to sit across the table from a president who promised to take them on.
You do not pressure an industry by handing them a bigger bucket to collect from.
You do not fix a system by making patients save their way out of a crisis they did not create.
This is not reform. This is rearranging deck chairs while the ship charges you for the life vest.
