Medicare "Dis"Advantage

John Oliver did what few journalists ever pull off: he made America laugh at its own medical exploitation. His Medicare Advantage episode stripped away the “silver sneakers and free dental” sales pitch to reveal what this system really is—a taxpayer-funded profit engine that punishes people for getting sick.

The ads alone prove it. William Shatner, Joe Namath, Kelsey Grammer, each one pimping out the illusion of “choice” while UnitedHealthcare and Humana quietly rake in hundreds of billions from upcoding fraud, fake networks, and denials that leave patients abandoned mid-treatment.

Oliver’s rundown of “in-network doctors” that turn out to be grocery stores sums up the entire mess. Medicare Advantage is private insurance in drag, sold to seniors who trust the word “Medicare” without realizing they’ve signed away their rights to actual care. The government pays more for it. Patients get less. Executives get yachts.

Half the country now depends on these plans, and by 2034, two-thirds will. That’s not reform. That’s colonization. The American health system doesn’t innovate; it metastasizes.
