Prior Authorize This, Beotch!
California just pulled a full-on Revenge of the Nerds move against the insurance industry, and I am here for it. Maybe not the "BENGAY in the football jock strap prank" but they're not to subtly telling health insurance companies to stick it where the sun doesn't shine.
We all know prior auths are a glorified delay tactic to deny care, exhaust doctors, and push patients into medical bankruptcy, all while pretending it's about "cost control", which is code for "I don't own enough Bentleys."
I don't know who exactly is behind this, but I'd love to shake their hand, buy them a drink, and ask how to clone this in the other states brave enough to clap back in defense and protection of its voters.
Honest Q — Is this the first of its kind? Are there precedents?
If this legislation actually passes, it could mean — more or less— no more death-by-paperwork. No more doctors waiting on approval from some middle manager who couldn't pass high school biology. No more patients spending weeks, months—even years—fighting for care they should've gotten immediately. And, if we're lucky, no more health insurance execs high-fiving each other over record denial rates.
Bravo!
