Mark Cuban Wants to Take Us Back To 1955

I love his math. I love his brashness. I love this version of him. (Being a billionaire with no fucks to give certainly helps)  And Cost Plus Drugs is brilliant. I use it to save a crap ton of money each month on a few of my generic Rxs.

After all, why the hell would I waste a $30 co-pay for a 90-day supply when my cash price is $12 for the exact. same. thing.

Transparent pricing is a gift.

Chef’s kiss. Bravo, Dr. Cuban. (If you're looking for brand ambassadors you already know where to reach me)

To recap, Mark walked into the Senate and called out the PBM Mafia while lobbyists choked on their coffee. He humiliated the shit out of Optum CEO Patrick Conway. He's has done more to expose pharmaceutical grift in a year than most politicians will do in a lifetime.

But “make it all cash and it will be cheaper” is a primary care answer to a catastrophic care problem.

A friend of mine needs a heart transplant. Cash price? $960,000. (She says she has Venmo if Mark wants to send it over.)

The 1955 model works great if you need a checkup, a strep test, or to pick up a bottle of generic metformin on your way to the Enchantment Under The Sea Dance in Hill Valley. #Gigawatt

It *does* not work when you are 21 and a doctor says the word “brain cancer,” and suddenly you are staring down a bill that looks like a mortgage for a house you will never live in.

I was that 21-year-old. I know where my bodies are buried. Literally. I watched friends die not because medicine failed them but because the bill came first.

Americans die on hold every day because we’re more profitable six feet under. To paraphrase from my book:

".,.,.It's hard enough to navigate your own diagnosis, but it's doubly difficult when your care and your outcome are predicated on a single question: What insurance do you have?"

Cash transparency fixes the aspirin markup. It does not fix the $400,000 bone marrow transplant. It does not fix the kid who needs a $2 million gene therapy or the mom whose chemo costs more than her house.

Mark knows the math. I am just not sure the math knows us yet.

Welcome to 2026: The Year of the Patient where the sick shall inherit the ballot.

If this hits home, drop your horror story in the comments and tell me where you have seen it happen. How about a rage repost? Or tag a former colleague just for fun. Every impression pushes this in front of more people who deal with the same mess.

Are you new here? My condolences and my thanks. Follow along and stay loud with the rest of us. More voices means more pressure on a system that counts on silence
